Call for Applications: Alfried Krupp Junior-Fellowships 2026/27 (Application deadline: August, 31 2025)

For the academic year 2026/27, the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald will award up to eight Alfried Krupp Junior Felloships. These fellowships are intended for exceptionally qualified early-career researchers who have completed their doctoral degree at the time of application.

Fellowships may be awarded for either one semester (October 1 to March 31 or April 1 to September 30) or for a full academic year (October 1 to September 30). Fellows are expected to pursue a larger research project during their stay and, ideally, bring it to completion. Furthermore, Fellows are expected to reside at the Kolleg and establish Greifswald as their primary place of residence for the duration of the fellowship. The Kolleg encourages Fellows to offer academic courses to students at the University of Greifswald during their stay.

Applications from the natural sciences are explicitly welcome. Joint applications from researchers who intend to carry out interdisciplinary projects in Greifswald are also possible. Applications should clearly outline how the proposed research project aligns with and strengthens the University of Greifswald’s research priorities and how it will contribute to the advancement of science and scholarship at the academic location of Greifswald.

In the academic year 2026/27, the Kolleg will place special emphasis on the following interdisciplinary focus:

  • Interdisciplinary Research on the Baltic Sea Region – from Culture to Ecology

Researchers from all disciplines working on these topics are especially encouraged to apply. Applications from other fields are equally welcome and will be evaluated based on their academic quality and relevance to the University of Greifswald’s research landscape.

Funding

The Junior Fellowships are generously funded, reflecting the high expectations placed on applicants' scholarly achievements. In addition, all Fellows are provided with a rent-free apartment and office space at the Kolleg. However, the Kolleg does not cover insurance, travel, or laboratory expenses.

It is generally expected that Junior Fellows will be granted leave from their home institution for the duration of their stay in Greifswald. Contributions by the home institution toward financing the research stay at the Kolleg are welcomed. In such cases, applicants are asked to specify the type and amount of the anticipated contribution.
