The Medical Faculty of the University of Augsburg is a young medical faculty that focuses on an emerging and future-oriented, internationally attractive, and interdisciplinary scientific profile with its two research priorities: "Environmental Health Sciences" (EHS) and "Medical Information Sciences" (MIS). In addition, it offers excellent opportunities for establishing interconnected healthcare research structures through its clinical profile centers in Vascular Medicine, Tumor Medicine, and Allergology. Augsburg University Hospital offers almost all medical specialties for the approximately two million inhabitants of the administrative district of Swabia. As the only center for maximum care, the University Hospital treats a very large number of patients with an exceptionally wide range of diseases in outpatient and inpatient care. This enables the creation of structured patient registers and environment-focused care research with the development of disease-specific early warning systems.

for Social determinants of environmental health and health care

The professorship is associated with membership and active participation in the establishment of the Environmental Health Sciences Institute (EHSI), which is currently being founded, as well as membership of the university-wide Center for Climate Resilience at the University of Augsburg.

The University of Augsburg would like to attract an outstanding and internationally visible personality with leadership skills who can demonstrate excellent research achievements in the advertised subject area and thus help shape the innovative further development of the EHS research focus at the Faculty of Medicine. Applicants are expected to have an independent scientific profile in the field of research on social and socio-economic determinants of environmental health, health care and health equity. The position holder should research the relationships between social and socio-economic determinants and health and analyze the influence these have on health, health promotion and prevention as well as the development and progression of diseases from a spatial and temporal perspective. Complex interactions between social and socio-economic factors and other environmental factors should also be focused on. Aspects of the influence of individual lifestyle factors on health and diseases with a special reference to clinical pictures of cardio- and neurovascular medicine, tumor medicine and the areas of the nervous system and psyche in the research concept are advantageous. The aim is to derive suitable prevention measures, particularly in the sense of relationship prevention, and to put them into practice with the help of suitable practice partners. The methodological expertise should include qualitative and quantitative methods of social research as well as observation studies.

The research activities and concepts of the post holder should show close links with the already appointed professorships in the EHS focus area as well as with the clinical profile areas and opportunities for cooperation with the research focus area Medical Information Sciences. Key selection criteria are success in acquiring competitive third-party funding, especially in collaborative research projects, and high-ranking publications. The ability and willingness to work interdisciplinarily in research networks of the University or the University Hospital Augsburg is a prerequisite. Due to the position holder's involvement in medical education, particular commitment and broad experience in modern skills-based teaching, including the use of blended learning formats, are desirable and must be reflected in a specific teaching concept. Proof of a didactic qualification is advantageous.

Recruitment requirements for the professorship are a completed university degree related to health or public health, several years of work as a scientist in the advertised field and proven teaching experience that demonstrates a broad connection to courses in medicine and health sciences. In addition pedagogical aptitude, special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate are expected, as well as additional scientific achievements, which may have been achieved through a habilitation in the advertised subject area, as part of a junior professorship or through equivalent scientific achievements (possibly also outside the university sector). The leadership of a junior research group constitutes an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 para. 10 sentence 5 BayHIG.

Appointment as a public servant can only take place so long as one is not over 52 years of age. Otherwise, employment is possible within the framework of an employment contract under private law.
