How is knowledge produced in societies? What counts as knowledge?
What consequences are associated with (certain) knowledge production? Who is involved in knowledge production? How is knowledge distributed? What conflicts of knowledge and interpretation exist, and how do they unfold?

The research at the Chair of Sociology focuses on processes, preconditions, and consequences of social knowledge production. We investigate knowledge controversies and conflicts of interpretation in the public spheres and social sub-areas such as science, law, politics, and economics using discourse and dispositive analytical tools. Thematically, our field of work centers on discourse research, sociology of knowledge and culture, sociology of the environment and risk, sociological theory, and French sociology.
