University Professor (m/f/d) for Environmental Toxicology and Human Health, Medical Faculty
The Medical Faculty of the University of Augsburg is a young medical faculty that focuses on an emerging and future-oriented, internationally attractive, and interdisciplinary scientific profile with its two research priorities: "Environmental Health Sciences" (EHS) and "Medical Information Sciences" (MIS). In addition, it offers excellent opportunities for establishing interconnected healthcare research structures through its clinical profile centers in Vascular Medicine, Tumor Medicine, and Allergology. In medical education, it pursues a modern competency-oriented medical training with the first model study program in Bavaria for a secure healthcare provision of the future. Augsburg University Hospital offers almost all medical specialties for the approximately two million inhabitants of the administrative district of Swabia. As the only center for maximum care, the University Hospital treats a very large number of patients with an exceptionally wide range of diseases in outpatient and inpatient care. This enables the creation of structured patient registers and environment-focused care research with the development of disease-specific early warning systems. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Augsburg announces a permanent position of a University Professor (m/f/d) The appointment is as a tenured public servant. The professorship is associated with membership of the Environmental Health Sciences Institute (EHSI), which is currently being established, active participation in its development, close links with the existing professorships and the innovative further development of the EHS research focus at the Faculty of Medicine. Close cooperation with the Center for Climate Resilience at the University of Augsburg is also desirable. The University of Augsburg would like to recruit an outstanding and internationally visible personality with leadership skills who has demonstrated excellent research achievements in the advertised field. Applicants are expected to have an independent scientific profile in the field of research on the effects of environmental toxins on human health. The post holder should research the direct and indirect effects of environmental toxins on the human organism and investigate them using chemical-analytical methods, taking into account various pathways in connection with the biotic and abiotic factors of ecosystems. Ideally, the influence of climate change on the distribution and mechanisms of action of toxic substances will also be taken into account. The analysis of mixtures of multiple substances both in biosamples and in environmental media should help to clarify the effects of environmental chemicals and biological exposures (e.g. air pollutants, persistent organic pollutants, heavy metals, algal and fungal toxins) on the human organism. The analytical detection and quantification of new pollutants (novel entities) and their metabolites also represent a potential research focus. Methodological expertise in the areas of target and non-target analytics using high-resolution analytical methods is required. The research activities of the post holder should also include, in particular, links with clinical disciplines and cooperation with the research focus on Medical Information Sciences. Key selection criteria are success in acquiring third-party funding and high-ranking publications. The ability and willingness to work interdisciplinarily in research networks of the University or the University Hospital Augsburg is required. Due to the position holder's involvement in medical education, particular commitment and broad experience in modern skills-based teaching, including the use of blended learning formats, are required and must be reflected in a specific teaching concept. Proof of a didactic qualification is advantageous. Recruitment requirements for the professorship are a university degree in natural sciences or medicine and broad experience in analytical-chemical methodology, especially in the field of toxicology, pedagogical aptitude, special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, as well as additional scientific achievements, which may have been achieved through a habilitation in the advertised subject area, as part of a junior professorship or through equivalent scientific achievements (possibly also outside the university sector). The leadership of a junior research group constitutes an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 para. 10 sentence 5 BayHIG. A Master of Science in Toxicology or additional training as a specialist toxicologist would be an advantage. Several years of experience as a scientist in the advertised field as well as proven teaching experience with a broad connection to courses in medicine and health sciences are expected. Appointment as a public servant can only take place so long as one is not over 52 years of age. Otherwise, employment is possible within the framework of an employment contract under private law. The University of Augsburg aims to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages female academics to apply.
