Guest Professor in Jewish Cultural History, Faculty of Philology and History
The Faculty of Philology and History at the University of Augsburg is seeking to make two following appointment by the 1st of April 2027 and by the 1st of April 2028. Guest Professor The appointment is for the duration of one semester, one in the summer of 2027 (01.04.2027 – 31.08.2027) and one in the summer of 2028 (01.04.2028 – 31.08.2028) based on an employment contract under private law. Due to the generous sponsorship of Dr Georg Haindl, the guest professorship in advertised annually for the summer semester and serves to strengthen the university’s cultural history profile and its range of interdisciplinary courses. It is aimed at experienced academics from Germany and abroad and invites them to spend a semester in Augsburg discussing their chosen topics with students, faculty, and the general public. “Jewish Cultural History” is understood broadly and includes all historical periods as well as Jewish literature and culture from antiquity to the present. A focus within the field of film studies is desirable. Visiting scholars are expected to teach for four hours a week during the semester and deliver two to three public lectures that provide insight into their current research projects. It is also expected that they will reside in Augsburg, with accommodation provided if required. The courses and guest lectures can be held in either German or English. An exposé of up to five pages providing an overview of proposed topics for the courses and guest lectures should be included with the application. Besides the general legal requirements, prerequisites for employment are a university degree, pedagogical qualification, and the special aptitude for academic work demonstrated by the quality of doctorate, as well as by additional academic achievements (e.g., a ‘Habilitation’ or an equivalent qualification according to Art. 98 Para. 10 Sentence 5 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG).
