We are looking for a student assistant to support our two international Humboldt Fellows in research (75%) and support in administration and event organization (25%). Applicants need to have a very good command of English and German.
More specifically: Currently concerning the history of whaling + Hawai’i in the world, we are looking for a candidate
- Able to read and comprehend historical (primary) texts, including those that are water-damaged, poorly preserved, and otherwise not presented to a modern publishing standard
- Able to do a literature review on a given topic, including the ability to assist in identifying archival collections
- With a keen eye for historical curiosities, and an openness to reading against the grain and between the lines
- Able to work independently but also be unhesitating in asking for guidance at any time that they encounter challenges
- The option to be employed for at least a year (= time till completion of their studies)
